I know you’ve been waiting for this part because a lot of people struggle with exercise. I know because I used to struggle with it.

But I’ve learned a few simple tricks that have made exercise a healthy and enjoyable habit.

Now I’m about to let you in on those tricks.


First, what is exercise?

I’m all about simplicity. So simply put, I say exercise is any physical activity that benefits your body.

There is no reason to complicate it. And you know how I feel. People have complicated what was supposed to be a simple healthy lifestyle and robbed themselves of its joy.

They’ve added unnecessary elements that make exercise unbearably difficult.


So what do I mean when I say that a simple healthy lifestyle requires some exercise?

I mean, in order to enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle, you must move your body in a way that benefits it.

But like I said, exercise was meant to be simple because your body was naturally designed to move. If people today moved more, they’d stave off problems that come with being immobile.


I’ve heard many excuses about why someone doesn’t exercise. I’ve used those excuses myself. They include:

  • I don’t have time
  • I haven’t found a gym
  • And believe it or not, I don’t have a comfortable gym gear.

I considered these excuses. And then I thought: what if there was a way to bypass all of these and get the exercise that I know my body needs?


  • What if I could remove time as an issue?
  • What if I could exercise outside of a gym?
  • What if I could use the clothes I have to exercise?


To remove the above as issues, I settled on the best solution:

Embed exercise into your daily activities.

Daily activities include but are not limited to:

  • Doing chores
  • Shopping
  • Gardening
  • Taking your children to school
  • Washing the car

There are many more daily activities and all of them require movement.


Now thanks to modern technology, we no longer have to move much in order to execute our daily activities.

  • Vacuum cleaners and washing machines have taken the load off household chores
  • We drive to do our shopping and to take our kids to school
  • Even better, we can order goods and have them delivered right at our doorstep.
  • Instead of walking to a friend’s house, now we can just call them.


While technology was supposed to make our lives better, it has contributed to increased stagnancy of our bodies. We no longer have to do much to execute tasks.

On the other hand, technology was never meant to be a curse. You don’t have to buy every piece of technology out there if you have your own God-given, natural and functioning body.


If you move your body naturally, you’re bound to love exercise.


I didn’t use to love exercising. In fact I hated it, dreaded it every time I knew I had to do it. But that was before I discovered this secret. That exercise was meant to be enjoyable because it was meant to be something we did naturally.

Since then, I haven’t looked back.


I’ll share with you my daily physical routine:

  • I do my chores, which include sweeping the house, mopping, doing dishes by hand and cooking
  • I lift several full buckets to water our plants
  • I walk to the store, the post office, pretty much everywhere I live
  • I do laundry by hand
  • I garden

These are only a few of what I do, and all of them require me to move my body a lot. I still get up at 05:30am every weekday to exercise for 30 mins.

But I find that on top of those 30 mins, I get a lot more exercise by embedding it into my daily activities.


Your chores might be different from mine. Whatever they are, try to use your own body to do them so that you can get the exercise you need. Especially if you are the kind of person who perhaps doesn’t like scheduling time for exercise.


There is another benefit of getting up early in the morning to exercise besides helping my body.

I get to spend time with nature that early in the morning. I breathe in the fresh air before anything corrupts it.

For example, this morning when I got outside, the setting moon shimmered beautifully. I watched it as I did my rounds, finished with a little bit of yoga still facing the moon.

After taking a bath, I went outside to look at the impending sunrise. The colors in the sky are just magical that time of the day. And when the sun does come up, the magic is just too much to take.

I’ll tell you, spending time with nature makes me aware of God’s presence more than doing anything else. And that is my ultimate idea of a simple healthy lifestyle.

Now my body just can’t get enough of exercise. I’m in great shape and my overall health is just fantastic.

My final word

A simple healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be difficult when it comes to exercise. Just move your body as you go about your day. But know when to slow down so that you don’t end up doing more harm than good by wearing your body down.

A simple healthy lifestyle is NOT possible without a good diet.

I’ve delayed bringing up diet in our guide of a simple healthy lifestyle.  And that’s because most people have taken diet and exercise to be the only key elements of a simple healthy lifestyle.

But that’s NOT the case. While diet and exercise are both important, they are not the only elements. We’ve covered other key elements here and here.

More on these elements and others will be covered soon.

But in this post, we’ll look at how diet is a requirement to enjoying a simple healthy lifestyle.


What is diet?

I have to be honest with you. I’m not even going to pretend I know more about diet than the fact that it’s the kind of food we eat on a daily basis.

That’s it. That’s all I know.

I have very little understanding of the fad diets that are going on around. I’ll admit though, there was a time I bothered to learn about them, and try them.

But they felt unnatural and complicated, and only gave me short-term results. And I’m all about a simple healthy lifestyle that gives lifelong results.

So I ditched all of these fads and stuck to what I knew, which is:

In order to enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle where diet is concerned, we have to eat clean.


And what does eating clean mean?

It means:

  • Ditching processed foods
  • Eating organic foods
  • Eating tons of fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Not overeating
  • Drinking lots of water
  • Cutting back on unhealthy fats, sugar and salt
  • Cutting back on caffeine and alcohol
  • Cultivating a healthy relationship with food. That includes avoiding stress-eating

I could list a lot of things. But in a nutshell, eating healthy is all about listening to your body. And to tell the truth, that’s ONLY what you should concern yourself with.

But people have complicated what was supposed to be a simple healthy lifestyle by buying into these fads that only lead to disappointments.

I hope you are sipping some water as you read this. And incorporating it into your meals.


Having water with meals for a simple healthy lifestyle


So, as soon as I told myself I was going to stick to the basics, I was fine. And I actually accomplished what I was looking for: a simple healthy lifestyle.

But I bet you’ve seen all those people on YouTube who eat tons of fresh fruits and vegetables and all the so-called healthy food. And I bet you thought: I can’t afford that.

You’re right. I’ve seen those videos too. And I have to admit, eating healthy doesn’t seem simple at all.

The gruesome prices of these healthy foods in some stores!

But I’m here to offer you a solution.

Many of these bloggers are promoting some of these stores, so they have to talk about them and convince you to buy from them.


So then, is it possible to eat healthy and not have to spend a lot of money?

Absolutely yes! Like I said, don’t worry about money. A simple healthy lifestyle has existed since before people worried about their bank balances.

If you haven’t been eating healthy because you think you don’t have extra money to spend on healthy food, then consider this:

  • Take all that money you’ve been spending on McDonald’s and buy healthy food instead. And chances are, McDonald’s isn’t the only unhealthy food you’ve been spending your money on.
  • So, divert all that money toward clean food, and you’ll start reaping the benefits of a simple healthy lifestyle immediately.
  • Obviously not all your food has been unhealthy. Still, instead of buying lots of rice and meat, buy smaller and put the rest of the money toward fruits and vegetables to help that rice and meat.
  • I’m sure you have a backyard you can grow vegetables in, or a window sill you can put vegetable pots on, so go on and grow your own vegetables.
  • Go to farmers’ markets, buy what is in season.

So, don’t be swayed by the people you see who make enjoying a simple healthy lifestyle complicated. A simple healthy lifestyle was meant to be just that: SIMPLE.


Again, ignore whatever and whoever makes you think eating healthy is complicated.

That’s the main reason why I stopped watching ‘What I eat in a day’ videos. I won’t talk much about that here though. I will dedicate an entire post to it soon.

Anyway, I might be stepping on toes when I say this, but I found these videos misleading and quite dangerous for the following reasons:

  • I saw people who promote eating very little. People who promote eating habits that leave you unsatisfied and lethargic. I know because I tried them.
  • Some bloggers even go as far as dreaming about the food they crave. They say they think about food all the time. Which to me isn’t normal.

Is it possible they think about food nonstop because they are starving themselves?

I mean, when did healthy eating become so complicated?

Have some rice, have some bread and all those other carbs people are warning you against. Remember one thing: Moderation is key and they won’t hurt you as long as they are part of a balanced diet.

It’s that simple.


So what am I saying exactly?

Don’t blindly follow the herd. Don’t be the kind of person who becomes gluten intolerant just because Kourtney Kardashian is. Stop depriving yourself and start living.

As long as you ditch unprocessed foods, eat organic,  eat in moderation, including tons of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet and drinking a lot of water, then your diet is on the right track.

And remember, while diet is very important, it’s only part of a simple healthy lifestyle. So don’t nurture it and ignore the other key elements.

A simple healthy lifestyle is NOT possible until you forgive yourself and others.

I bet you never thought I’d say that, huh? You think this is too ‘deep’?

Well, many people don’t enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle because they have ‘deep’  issues they haven’t forgiven themselves for.

And because of that they can’t reach their true amazing selves because they are too busy holding grudges.

What do I mean when I say you should forgive yourself?

I mean you should cut yourself some slack:

  • Maybe you hurt someone
  • Maybe you are in a relationship you don’t want and don’t have the guts to leave
  • Maybe you messed up a good relationship
  • Maybe you got yourself into a big debt

No matter your circumstances, you can start enjoying a simple healthy lifestyle now by forgiving yourself first.

No one is perfect. We hear that all the time. Yet we still put ourselves on a pedestal.

We are too hard on ourselves and that hinders us from enjoying a simple healthy lifestyle.

Because you can’t change what you did, forgive yourself, move forward and change what you can right now.

Be a better person today than you were yesterday.


I’ll give you my personal struggles.

  • I lost a job I should’ve held on to.
  • I got romantically involved with people I shouldn’t have gotten involved with.

I’ll just name those two among many others; I need you to see the point I’m trying to make.

I lost that job. Of course it was hard, leaving with no money and having to move back to my parents’. And I was bitter for quite a while.

But then one day I told myself I wasn’t going to be bitter anymore.


You might ask, what was the event that made me tell myself that at that particular moment?

The truth: No event.

One day, I was sitting alone and wallowing in my bitterness.

And then I remembered I was bigger than any challenge thrown to me because I’m a child of God most high.

I remembered James 1 saying I shouldn’t be anxious when going through trials and tribulations. They produce faith and patience in me so that ultimately I lack nothing.

I consider everything in the bible as the truth. So I used that truth to guide me from that moment forth and I haven’t looked back since.


A holy bible for a simple healthy lifestyle


The same thing happened with the relationship mistakes I made in the past. Intentional and misguided, and they made a negative impact in my life.

But I could no longer change what I had done. What I could do was use the grace God has availed to me to not repeat the same mistakes and be better.

OK, maybe your regrets are the same as mine, maybe not. The solution remains the same though.

Forgive yourself and move forward if you want to enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle.


But forgiveness should go beyond yourself.

I’ve stressed this here before. Enjoying a simple healthy lifestyle is dependent upon you looking beyond yourself to other people.

Selflessness is a virtue that will save you.

So, forgive others just as you’d want them to forgive you. Don’t condemn others the same way you shouldn’t condemn yourself.

Most often, we look at the mistakes other people have made and we hold a grudge. We constantly remind them of the way they hurt us.

  • Maybe your spouse cheated on you.
  • Maybe your friend stole money from you
  • Maybe you were wrongly fired from your job

And many others.

The devil will have you believe you need to seek justice and make those people who wronged you pay. Believe me, that’s NOT going to restore your peace.

The best thing to do is to forgive the people who hurt you and set them free in your heart. You forgive them, regardless of whether or not you feel like they deserve it.

When you forgive them, you not only release them but you release yourself. You let go of being angry and bitter all the time, to being peaceful and calm. Now only then, can you enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle.

Think about this. You sin all the time, and yet your sins now, as well as your past sins and your future sins have already been forgiven. Not because you deserve that forgiveness, but because God’s love for you is unconditional.

So, just as God’s love for us is unconditional, so should our love for others be, no matter what they have done to us.

2 Corinthians 2 v 7 says that when others sin, we should forgive and comfort them, so they won’t give up in despair.

And we know exactly what this verse means.

Have you ever been in a situation where you can’t get someone to trust you, no matter what you do? Maybe you promised someone something, and they think you won’t deliver, and they keep telling you that.

Instead of working hard to prove them wrong, it’s almost always easier to just break that promise. Why? Simply because the person didn’t think you’d honor your promise anyway.

We tend to confirm the identities people give us instead of proving our own identities.

A thief will continue stealing if we expect that of them. An unfaithful spouse will continue to be unfaithful because we keep reminding them that they are.

But if we remind someone who’s made a mistake that they are better and bigger than their mistake.

If we tell them that we respect and trust them to always do the right thing.

That there’s nothing they can do to make us love them less.

Then they tend to take the faith we have in them as momentum to do better.


The final word

So let’s build our characters the right way; by forgiving ourselves and others. Only then can we have enough peace to enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle.

 It most definitely is!

The above tips are achievable RIGHT NOW. But only if they are simple.

I wasn’t enjoying the simple healthy lifestyle I knew I was meant to enjoy.


I had tried all these tips of a simple healthy lifestyle and failed. Why?

  •  I didn’t have a gym membership like my advisors did.
  • I didn’t have equipment at home for when I couldn’t go to the gym.
  • I didn’t have tight leggings and a crop top like everyone I saw in blogs and on YouTube
  • I couldn’t afford the fancy food they told me to eat
  • I didn’t have a camera I could use to record my progress.


But the underlying reason was: The simple healthy lifestyle I modeled after WASN’T simple at all!

Why was  so hard?

  • No one gave me a good reason why I should enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle
  • No one stressed the point that EVERYONE should enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle
  • Everyone gave me the wrong idea of what enjoying a simple healthy lifestyle looked like
  • What I got were tips. No one showed me how to actually use them.

So, now, I’m about to teach you.

That’s a good reason, of course. But it is entirely focused on the self, and that is not enough to sustain you for the long run.

Then you find yourself back to square one, simply because you are trying to be your own main focus.

Many people today are NOT enjoying the simple healthy lifestyle they deserve because there is too much self-worship.

Life has become all about superficial self-image. We have become so self-centered that we can only think of ourselves and no one else.

Now, loving yourself so you can be a blessing to others carries you farther.


Being healthy for your children, for example,  is a much better reason than looking good at the beach.

And that’s because you’ll want to stay healthy for as long as your children live.

But even better, being healthy for the world will ensure you enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle until you die at that ripe old age.


Because the world is big. There are people who need you now and many that aren’t yet born  you’ll need you twenty years from today.

So you have to be healthy for them.

A simple healthy lifestyles begins with loving yourself enough to take care of yourself so you can bless others.

It’s about loving yourself enough to take care of yourself because you are a valuable, unique and indispensable human being with a life purpose.


How do you begin to love yourself so you can enjoy a simple healthy lifestyle?

From this moment forth, challenge yourself to love yourself enough.

Think about all the good things about yourself, no matter how hard. Express gratitude for those things.

Think about your purpose in this life. You were born to bring good to this world. You don’t need to do anything major to exercise your life purpose. Begin by sharing, and being good to people.

Then you’ll be strengthened and your lot increased so you can share more and be even better to people.

So, go ahead. Think of your purpose RIGHT NOW, of how you can contribute to this world.  And sip some water while you do that because water is nature’s best free drink.
