Everyday you should use food as medicine for your body because that’s really the true purpose of food.
We enjoy what we eat, so it only makes sense that it should come into our bodies to heal them.
But you can’t begin to use food as medicine for your body if you are not eating the right way. I’m about to explain, so keep reading.
You’ll remember that a simple healthy lifestyle requires a good diet.
But I know a lot of people look at food as the enemy to their well-being. I know because I used to do the same thing.
And that’s a dangerous mentality. How can the one thing you get energy from, become your enemy?
Food can’t possibly be your enemy; you are your own enemy because of your wrong choice of food and how you eat it.
God blessed us with perfectly good food: grains, milk, meat, fruits, vegetables, etc. And all of these are healthy.
We became our own worst enemies when we took all this good food and heavily processed it to make all the junk we eat today.
That junk is poison for our bodies.
The good news is that you can stop all that junk and start eating right and reap the benefits of doing so immediately.
So how do you begin to use food as medicine for your body?
- Tip #1: Eat foods in their natural state
I just talked about this. If you want to use food as medicine for your body then you are going to have to avoid all the processed foods you’ve been eating and eat foods in their natural state.
I’ve completely cleaned up my diet and avoid processed foods. I cook grains just as they are when they are harvested, and most of the foods I eat come from local farmers.
You can’t go wrong if you eat foods in their natural state. So then, do this so you can use food as medicine for your body.
- Tip #2: Pray for everything you eat
Most people probably don’t pray for the foods they eat beyond praying for their provision.
But you can use food as medicine for your body by praying for what you eat.
I didn’t use to pray for food either. But lately, every morning, with regards to food, I’ve been praying like this:
‘Father, thank you for our daily bread, and thank you for all the hands that make that food. May we always know the right foods to reach out for and may we always know when to stop eating. May every bite that we eat come into our bodies to heal and restore them. In Jesus’ name, amen.’
Praying like this has helped me tremendously with binge eating which I used to struggle with.
The word of God assures us that we are free to eat whatever we want as long as we give thanks for it.
1 Timothy 4 v 4: Everything God created is good. And if you give thanks, you may eat anything.
1 Timothy 4 v 5: What God has said and your prayer will make it fit to eat. (CEV)
So, give thanks for everything you eat and you can use food as medicine for your body.

- Tip #3: Eat in moderation
Use food as medicine for your body by eating in moderation. Whatever you’ve just given thanks for should be eaten in the right amounts.

Many people see food as the enemy because not only have they heavily processed the good foods God gave us, but they eat them in excess.
The thing about eating foods in their natural state is that you can eat as much as you want without gaining all that excess weight.
So you don’t have to starve yourself if you eat healthy. So then, start eating in moderation so you can begin to use food as medicine for your body.
Eating in moderation is easy. You eat when you are hungry and stop when you feel full. Learn to listen to your body so you can be able to read these signs. I recommend how to listen to your body.
- Tip #4: Drink a lot of water
Water is very important if you want to use food as medicine for your body. Our bodies are mostly made of water, so it makes sense that we need to be drinking lots of it.
Drinking water helps the food you eat by aiding in its digestion and in expelling it out of our bodies.
Drinking water also helps you know when you are truly hungry because it’s easy to confuse thirst with hunger and eat when all your body needs is some water instead.
Water is nature’s best free drink. Use that to your own advantage so you can use food as medicine for your body.

- Tip #5: Grow your own food
There’s nothing that beats growing your own food if you want to use food as medicine for your body.
Make a vegetable garden without spending any money is a must read if you are worried about growing your own food on a tight budget.
I’m grateful that I’ve taken the step to grow my own food. A week ago I planted spinach, kale, carrots, beetroots and sweet potatoes in my new garden.
Two days ago I planted tomatoes. Right now I’m preparing pumpkin seeds.
The good news is that I only bought spinach seeds at the beginning of this year. The rest of the vegetable seeds, I got from my neighbors free of charge.
Be responsible for what goes into your body so you can use food as medicine for your body.
- Tip #6: Make your eating natural
I mean don’t put embellishments on it if you want to use food as medicine for your body.
People have complicated healthy eating by making endless rules even they can’t follow.

Eating was always meant to be natural. Treat it as such so you can use food as medicine for your body.

You can and should use food as medicine for your body. Meditate on this truth and let your subconscious pick on it.
Maybe you’ve messed up your eating with all the rules that people have made with regards to food.
